A New Chapter Begins

A New Chapter Begins

B&B Hitching Post began with a shared passion for cooking and a dream of running a restaurant of their own. Mike Bergman of Reedsburg and Steve Boelter of Portage joined forces to reopen the Hitching Post under new ownership, adding their initials to create the name B&B Hitching Post. The two owners first got to know each other while working as chefs at Let’s Eat in Portage, where they built a strong working relationship and shared their love for cooking. After years of experience in local restaurants and kitchens, they saw the opportunity to create a place of their own where good food and friendly service could come together.

Both Mike and Steve brought years of restaurant experience to B&B Hitching Post. Mike previously owned The North End on Lake Redstone for 11 years before working as a cook and manager at Longley’s Restaurant and Erin’s Snug Irish Pub in Reedsburg. Steve spent 22 years working in a factory while continuing to follow his passion for cooking, later working as a chef at Iron Skillet, RJ’s, Shooter’s, and Let’s Eat. Together, they wanted to create a restaurant centered on comfort food, nightly specials, and the kind of homey setting where everyone can feel welcome.

Before reopening, Mike and Steve put in months of hard work to give the restaurant a fresh new look while keeping its welcoming feel. The dining areas were repainted, a new salad bar was added, and the smaller dining room received new lighting, tile, and trim. They also created a menu inspired by the food they enjoyed serving at Let’s Eat, including weekly specials that give guests something new to look forward to. From Mexican Night on Tuesdays and Corned Beef and Cabbage on Wednesdays to Italian Night on Thursdays, Friday Fish Fry, Saturday Prime Rib, and Sunday Brunch Buffet.
